CAD DRAFTING EXPERTISE
We take pride in producing industry-leading fabrication and general arrangement drawings—including clear descriptions of all parts on the bill of materials.
Our highly skilled professional drafters create detailed technical drawings that depict the precise dimensions, configurations, and specifications of heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and other equipment used to specify materials, dimensions, tolerances, and assembly details.
Our process—including the close integration of all our engineering and fabrication teams ensures alignment with design standards and project requirements—ensuring our fabricated products are constructed to your precise specifications for optimal performance, safety, and reliability.

The Metalforms Advantage
Our CAD department includes a versatile team of drafters with degrees in Computer-Aided Design, while team leadership holds a B.S.M.E. or B.E. (Mech.)
All our drafters are cross-trained in our Quality Control department—which gives them an edge in understanding and applying non-destructive examination (NDE) requirements to all your heat exchanger, vessel, equipment, and piping projects. -
Software—and Proprietary Standards
Our drafting department uses AutoCAD software—and over 500 internal proprietary standards in creating drawings.
Our proprietary standards help generate the complete drawing package—in the least amount of time—regardless of whether we are fabricating a complete shell & tube heat exchanger or simply a channel, tube bundle, or other part.
We use Mastercam to generate our CNC drilling and machining programs. -
Industry StandardsMetalforms is committed to designing the highest quality shell & tube heat exchangers and ASME pressure vessels—in full accordance with individual customer specifications and the following industry standards:
• ASME U, U2, U3, and S certifications
• TEMA Class R, C, & B
• NBIC certification
• API (American Petroleum Institute) 620, 650, & 660
• AWS-certified welders
Throughout the design process, we rigorously apply the ASME and NBIC codes to ensure the structural integrity and safety of our pressure vessels. For heat exchangers, we adhere to TEMA and API 660 standards, which are critical for achieving reliability, efficiency, and long service life in demanding environments. -
2D & 3D CAD Expertise
Our experienced team translates conceptual designs into accurate technical drawings, including layouts of tubes, shell, baffles, headers, and support structures, using CAD software to specify materials, dimensions, tolerances, and assembly details—and ensure alignment with design standards and project requirements.
We also have the capability to produce 3D supplementary views to help our customers visualize the assembly in-depth. Once the drawings are released to our shop, any required changes are clearly identified with incremented revisions on the drawings. -
Applications
We design shell and tube heat exchangers and asme pressure vessels tailored to meet our customers’ diverse needs and facilitating efficient heat transfer, precise temperature control, and enhanced process performance across a range of applications, including:
• Cooling water systems
• Distillation and gas treating units
• Fuel gas conditioning systems
• Heat recovery systems
• Heat treatment systems
• Heat/oil transfer systems• Lube oil systems
• Power generation systems
• Product storage systems
• Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units
• Steam systems
• Tank heating systems
