Water used in chemical manufacturing processes often becomes contaminated with VOCs and other substances.

Preventing the release of these VOCs and other particulates and contaminants from entering into the environment protects water bodies and ecosystems from pollution—and many jurisdictions have stringent regulations regarding discharge of industrial wastewater, particularly concerning the levels of VOCs and other hazardous contaminants.

Air stripping is an effective method for removing related contaminants and can help meet these regulatory standards.  Though air stripping in and of itself does not generate excessive heat, the stripped water can carry residual heat from upstream processes such as chemical reactions, equipment cooling, or other stages of the manufacturing process.

A stripped water cooler shell and tube heat exchanger is often used to ensure that stripped water is at the optimal temperature for reuse, discharge, or further processing.

This need can arise from a variety of factors, including residual heat from other processes, regulatory requirements, equipment protection, energy efficiency, and safety considerations.  In some cases, cooling the stripped water is crucial for maintaining process efficiency, product quality—and compliance with environmental standards.
